Happy Birthday to the 15th Air Transport Wing

This month of May 2023, the 15th Air Transport Wing of the Belgian Air Force is celebrating its 75th anniversary. All the best wishes from EATC!

The 15th Wing hosts, among others, the Belgium-Luxembourg A400M unit. The unit operates currently seven A400M transport aircraft, that are under the operational authority of EATC.

During the celebration this past WE, the Wing opened its doors at Melsbroek Airbase to the public, showcasing, among others, A400M air assault landing with special forces and a static display of the A400M Atlas. The new A400M flight simulator, inaugurated just a few days ago by the Belgium Minister of Defence and Luxembourg authorities, was also presented to the public.

The 15th Air Transport Wing...

... was born in 1948. It was a combination of several RAF squadrons that were formed during World War II and were almost exclusively manned by Belgian air crew. The 15th Wing has seen a very wide range of transport aircraft come and go, from the iconic Dakota over the widely known Flying Boxcar and Hercules, to today's state-of-the-art A400M Atlas. Since the beginning, they have been ready day and night to bring humanitarian resources to remote areas or evacuate people from conflict zones. The daily support to the operations of the Belgium defence or to partners continues as ever, while the unit is in full transition both in terms of its fleet and its infrastructure.

Therefore the 15th Wing motto 'TENACITY' is more than appropriate!
