… on behalf of its member nation, Italy. From 01 to 12 April 2019, Italy participated, together with 38 NATO Allies and partners, in NATO’s largest medical exercise in Romania. The Italian Armed Forces requested EATC to plan the aeromedical evacuations mission for the Italian C-130J, under EATC operational command.
This big and unique NATO medical exercise gathered more than 2,500 participants and offered an unrivalled opportunity to test medical responses to military incidents. Through ground, naval and air components, participating nations practiced procedures to provide continuous medical care and strategic medical evacuation for chemical, biological and radiological incidents. The Italian C-130J and the crew participated in an exceptional aeromedical evacuation scenario, simulating the transfer of an infective patient in a high bio-containment configuration.
The Vigorous Warrior 2019 is the first testbed for EATC and the newly appointed Italian National Patient Evacuation Coordination Centre in Pratica di Mare. The comprehensive workflow and the achieved results showed a smooth and reliable collaboration. With this successful cooperative work, EATC proved the benefit to the Italian Armed Forces in using a standardised procedure to facilitate an effective and efficient evacuation operation.
