On 03 February 2020, a German Airbus A400M left Wunstorf (Germany) in the direction of Lisbon. On board : German armed forces’ medical personnel as well as medical equipment. The flight was planned, commanded and controlled by EATC.
When Portugal sought help to cope with the surge in coronavirus infections, the German government immediately reacted and sent a fact-finding team to Lisbon. Based on the results of this team, the Bundeswehr set up on short notice a mission to deploy 26 health workers plus a large number of medical equipment, requesting EATC to plan and command the flight from Northern Germany to Portugal’s capital. EATC took up the challenge, including all last-minute changes. These are normal for such a mission in the COVID-19 environment. Thanks to the experience and flexibility of EATC personnel, Germany and also Portugal were offered an optimised support as basis for a successful mission!
