AECC Participation in CAMO25

As part of its ongoing efforts to define and prepare its role in a potential NATO Article V scenario, the European Air Transport Command (EATC) continues to assess and adapt its Aeromedical Evacuation (AE) capabilities. Recognising that such scenarios are likely to involve significantly higher numbers of casualties than the current AE system is designed to handle, EATC is actively working to align procedures and capacities with NATO partners in the field of Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC).

Colonel Dr Henning von Perbandt, Head of Branch at EATC’s Aeromedical Evacuation Control Centre (AECC), contributed expert knowledge during the multinational exercise Casualty Movement 25 (CAMO25), held on 13 and 14 May 2025 in Garlstedt, Germany. CAMO25 was a logistics-focused exercise centred on the coordination and management of large-scale casualty movements in support of a NATO Article V scenario on the Alliance’s eastern flank.

During the event, Colonel von Perbandt engaged with the Exercise Simulation Cell and delivered a presentation on the AECC’s core principles, organisational structure, and operational procedures. His participation highlighted the essential role of the AECC within a comprehensive multinational medical support framework.

Looking ahead, the AECC will continue to strengthen its cooperation with the Multinational Medical Coordination Centre-Europe (MMCC-E) and plans to actively participate in future NATO exercises. These include the upcoming NATO Exercise STEADFAST DUEL in autumn 2025, as well as CAMO26, scheduled to take place in Berlin, Germany, in March 2026.
