Meeting the challenges of strategic aeromedical evacuation

The fifth edition of the annual “National Patient Evacuation Coordination Centers” NPECC conference took place from 10 to 12 December 2018 at Eindhoven Air Base. The conference is an embedded annual rendezvous among the member nations’ and EATC’s medical experts, involved in the organisation of strategic aeromedical evacuation.

“The aeromedical evacuation process is crucial
to support our troops in worldwide operations”
says Colonel Dr Tilmann Moll,
head of EATC’s “Aeromedical Evacuation Control Centre” (AECC).

Attendees updated their set of information on strategic aeromedical evacuation capacities and reviewed their operational experiences in this special part of the rescue chain. They also exchanged views on the concepts of training, as well as the execution and communication for a professional and save patient movement by EATC assets. This discussion follows EATC’s endeavour to improve interoperability. The agenda was completed by fruitful discussions on how to promote trust and confidence in a sensible arena such as cross-national aeromedical evacuation and how to strengthen the network between AECC and NPECCs.

This yearly meeting among EATC’s and national medical experts is an effective encounter to discuss aeromedical evacuation. Only through these unique gatherings can we act in concert for the benefit of our patients, pooling and sharing aeromedical evacuation assets.
